2009

La compagnie de danse Dancefloor est née à Genève en mars 2009 avec la rencontre inopinée entre Fred ( France) et BoogTom (Corée du Sud). A cette époque, BoogTom est un danseur professionnel de hip hop qui participe ou juge différents concours (battles) à travers le monde. Cette rencontre a été rendue possible grâce à Junior Boogaloo, l’un des danseurs hip hop les plus connus et reconnus mondialement. Après un repas chez Junior, Fred emmène Tom en soirée salsa et après quelques échanges de pas libres sur la salsa, Fred propose à BoogTom de former un duo dont la particularité serait de se fusionner la salsa et le hip hop.

L’objectif étant de se présenter au Salsa vintage (Festival de salsa à Genève en mai 2009) qui à lieu un mois plus tard. Dancefloor se produit avec leur première chorégraphie « Krush la 33« . L’originalité et la fraîcheur et l’originalité de ce show séduisent le public et les organisateurs. Grâce à ce show BoogTom et Fred sont amenés à se produire sur de nombreuses scènes, la plus importante étant celle de Salsorro (Espagne).

Dancefloor was founded in Geneva in March 2009. The company’s story began with an unexpected encounter between Fred (France) and BoogTom (South Korea). This meeting was facilitated by one of the world’s most recognized hip-hop dancers, Junior Boogaloo. After a friendly dinner at Junior’s house, Fred brought Boog Tom—also a world-renouned professional hip-hop dancer who participates and judges international competitions and battles—out to a salsa party in Geneva. After a fruitful excahnge of their different dance styles, Fred suggested forming a duo with the aim of integrating both salsa and hip-hop movements.

The immediate goal of the duo was to showcase their innovative fusion of the two dance styles in a performance entitled “Krush la 33.” This show took place in May 2009 at Salsa Vintage—a salsa festival held in Geneva. The the originality and creativity of their performance brought them public recognition by the event organizer, only two months after their initial meeting. This recognition quickly led to numerous perfomance invitations, the most important being Salsorro (Spain).

2010

En 2010, Fred part en vacances un mois en Corée du Sud pour rendre visite à BoogTom. Il apprend la discipline et le sens du travail des Coréens ainsi que la façon de monter une chorégraphie auprès de BoogTom. Cette année-là ils décident de mettre sur pied leur seconde chorégraphie « Moments in Boogaloo » qu’ils présentent la première fois à Copa Loca (Festival de salsa) à Besançon (France). Déterminés à offrir des spectacles de qualité, ils travaillent dur: BoogTom le cha cha et Fred le contrôle. Ce denier spectacle a connu un énorme succès partout il a été produit par la suite.

In 2010 Fred visited BoogTom for one month in South Korea. During his time there he was exposed to South Koreans’ discipline and strong work ethic, as well the manner in which BoogTom created various choreographies. That year they decided to collaborate on their second choreography “Moments in Boogaloo.” The show was performed for the first time at the Copa Loca salsa festival in Besançon (France). Committed to providing quality shows, they both worked hard: BoogTom on cha cha cha and Fred on controlled body movement. Moments in Boogaloo was a huge success, and paved the way to many subsequent festival invitations.

2012

A l’été 2012 il devient plus difficile pour BoogTom de venir en Europe et le travail du duo marque un arrêt après un dernier show en Corée du sud. Fred propose alors à Marc, un danseur Genevois, de continuer l’aventure Dancefloor. Ce dernier qui affectionne également le mélanges de styles en particulier de hiphop et salsa accepte la proposition.

Très rapidement ils trouvent une synergie et créent leur première chorégraphie « Cuenta bien » qu’ils présentent pour la première fois à Geneva Afrolatin Congress 2013 (Suisse). Le succès est au rendez-vous et permet à Dancefloor de danser sur de nombreuses scènes à travers le monde.

During the summer of 2012 it became increasingly difficult for BoogTom to travel to Europe. The work of the duo thus came to a natural end after their last show in South Korea. At this point, Fred offered Kouame, a Geneva-based dancer who also specializes in the fusion of different dance styles, to continue the Dancefloor adventure with him.

There was an immediate synergy between the dancers and they choreographed their first show “Cuenta bien,” to be showcased at the Geneva Afrolatin Congress in 2013 (Switzerland). The success of this show was a turning point for both dancers and it opened the door to dancing on many stages worldwide.

2014

En 2014 la compagnie s’agrandit avec l’arrivée successive de Laetycia(Suisse) puis Corinne (France), 2 danseuses de la région Genevoise partageant cette vision du mélange de la salsa avec différents styles. Elles apportent la touche féminine de Dancefloor et leurs compétences et expériences dans différentes danses sont un atout de plus pour la qualité et la richesse de la troupe.
L’aventure continue…

In 2014 the company grew with the arrival of two new dancers: Laëtycia (Switzerland) and Corinne (France), who both share the same vision of integrating salsa with other dance styles. Their skills and experience in different dance-forms are key assets which improve the quality and richness of the company, and their movements bring a touch of elegance to the group.
Thus, the Dancefloor adventure continues…
